Jihan Nyhn
Jihan Nyhn is a powerful arms smuggler not much is known about, as he mostly functions as a background story for the Iron Guard team in UT. He was known to be a supporter of guerillas fighting NEG oppression on other planets. Because of his line of work, he hired a team of personal bodyguard. This didn't prevent an unknown assassin to kill Nyhn somewhere before 2293, the year of UT.
After Nyhn's assassination, his team of bodyguards was left without a job. To vent their aggression they joined the Liandri Grand Tournament as the "Iron Guard". Lauren, said to be Jihan Nyhn's lover at the time, suspected the Liandri Mining Corporation to be behind his death. She joins the Iron Guard to fight in the Liandri sponsored Tournament, hoping to come close enough to uncover the truth.
By 2302, the year of UT2003, it becomes known Lauren was in fact involved with Brock since high school, suggesting the rumor of her relationship with Nyhn was incorrect. By this time Nyhn seems all but forgotten, and exactly how he was assassinated, and by whom, remains unclear.
Nyhn also owned the Mojo][ arena as the personal training ground for his bodyguards.
Unreal Tournament
This veteran squad of elite warriors once served as personal bodyguards to the powerful arms smuggler Jihan Nyhn. After Jihan's assassination, the Iron Guard found themselves unemployed and the Tournament was an ideal arena to vent their aggression.

Brock
Brock's combat abilities are second only to his presense of character. When he's not trying to seduce the ladies, he'll be in the arena, pulse gun in hand.

Lauren
Lauren was said to be Jihan Nyhn's lover. Suspecting Liandri to be the cause of his death, she has joined the Iron Guard to uncover the truth.
|
Rylisa
Little is known about Rylisa or her motivations for joining the Iron Guard. Nearly every member of the Guard has a reason for fighting in the NEG and Liandri, but she has not confided in any members of the group since joining.
(There is also a Juggernaut named Rylisa. Coincidence?)
|
Johnson
Johnson was hired out of the black market slave trade to serve as bodyguard to Nyhn. He is strong and has an extreme amount of endurance.
|

Harlin is a solid fighter with plenty of field experience. He joined the Iron Guard after watching NEG Storm Troopers execute his family during a block raid.
|

Sara's life is dedicated to protecting others. Her service to Nyhn was contingent upon his support of outworld guerillas fighting NEG oppression. Now that he is dead, she continues to fight the NEG in their own death game.

Other Characters
Nikki
Occasionally, rich civilians are able to buy their way into the Tournament. The Liandri Rules Board doesn't like to include 'normal' civilians in the games because, frankly, they aren't good enough to be entertaining.
In three upset victories last week, Nikki proved that rich civilians can, in fact, be successful in the Tournament. She has learned a lot very quickly and has returned to show you some new tricks.
In the second match, Nikki's favorite weapon is the Sniper Rifle.
|
Xoleras
A former Greek mob executioner on 'extended leave' from his 'family business', Xoleras has a reputation of completely and utterly dominating his opponents. A master of thin ledges and with vision of an eagle, he rarely misses an opportunity to blank an unskilled opponent.
Xoleras's favorite weapon is the Pulse Gun.

Unreal Tournament 2003/2004/UC
Somewhat more rugged than their earthly counterparts, the Mercs of the 7th Fleet suffer from none of the vulnerabilities that make their opponents easier targets.
Brock and Lauren joined forces with Malcolm during his reign as tournament champion. Infighting and recrimination over their stunning defeat in last year's Tournament led to the dissolution of that team. Now, Brock and Lauren have returned leading their old team, the Iron Guard.
The only original members in the 2303 incarnation of the team are Brock and Lauren. The rest of the team consists of mercenaries from the 2302 tournament, not connected to Jihan Nyhn.

Character biographies
Brock
Fresh from the interstellar academy, a scion from a rich Martian family. It is rumored he killed his mentor during training, but had his father bribe the authorities. Can be a hothead, but mostly tends to do things by the book.
|
Lauren
Fierce, loyal, and technically capable. Her frame may be slim but she has the most incredible reflexes. Born into a poor asteroid miner family, she became notorious by stealthily eradicating her parents' competitors in space before becoming a full time Tournament warrior. Her soft side? It has been rumored she'd do anything to defend her high-school sweetheart, Brock.
|
Sapphire
Soft spoken, intelligent and attractive, yet extremely brutal in the arena, Sapphire sets the hearts of many combatants racing for many different reasons.
See also Sapphire.
|
Prism
Raised on the crippled Capships of the 7th Mercenary fleet, Prism is part engineer, part gun for hire. She takes her name from the custom eyepiece she designed while inspecting bulkheads for micro-fractures.
|
BlackJack
Don't let those pretty eyes fool you. She's hard as steel, and holds her own in the arena better than most men. As a scout for Merc raiding parties she earned a reputation for dependability and courage while she was still a kid. But then nobody's really a kid anymore. They took that away too.
|
Satin
It was only two years ago that an Imperial Dreadnought captured her clan's vessel and brought its human cargo to the slave docks of Briggan IV. The dock master thought her a pretty one and kept her for himself but his unwanted attentions earned him a crushed larynx and a swift visit to the light at the end of the tunnel. Overseer Driak, who had always despised the dockmaster, took an instant liking to the girl and trained her for the Tournaments, where she has been ever since.
|
Wraith
A participant in the Tournaments since the age of 19, Wraith has taken part in some of the most savage battles fought on the arena floor. Considering his long history of combat, and the injuries he has incurred, it begs the question of which may be more scarred: His body or his mind.
|
Torch
He's not much for talking, but when you need to give orders you don't want to be yelling over your men. If there's a point to be made, Torch prefers to make it with raw firepower.
|
Romulus
Supported by his twin brother, Romulus has proven that with the right team behind you a good leader can go anywhere. So what if his brother feels a little jealous now and then, and maybe they start taking shots at each other. That's what the cloning tank's for, right?
|
Remus
Being a twin in the Tournaments isn't so bad, as long as you're on the same side. If you think it's hard to have to face a brother in the arena try it when he's also got your face. One thing makes it easier though. He's a real jackass.

Unreal Tournament 3
A group of highly skilled and well trained mercenaries, expert in virtually any combat situation.
In the Unreal Tournament 3 campaign, Iron Guard defend the areas belonging to the Axon Research Corporation on Taryd. As no affiliations have been previously known with the Axon corporation, the team, being formed mainly of mercenaries, was probably paid to help Axon.

Trivia
- jihan is the code that unlocks Ariel in Unreal Tournament 3.
- In the Playstation 2 version of Unreal Tournament it's stated that Jihan Nyhn had bought several places to be used for the Guards training, such as the one of DM-Mojo][.
- In Unreal Tournament 2004, albeit totally reformed, the team is the only returning team from the first Tournament game aside of Thunder Crash and Iron Skull. They also return in Unreal Tournament 3 alongside the Necris Black Legion.
- In UT2004 Single Player mode, Wraith also belongs to the alternate Mercenary team, Super Nova. He is the only character in the game belonging to two different teams. If you hire him as part of your team, he will take on an alternate name if you happen to face the Iron Guard or Super Nova teams.
- Romulus and Remus may be named after the traditional founders of Rome.
