About
Renegade X is a total conversion of Command & Conquer: Renegade for Unreal Tournament 3, recreating its Command & Conquer multiplayer mode on Unreal Engine 3.
Two teams, GDI and Nod, each start with a base of destructible buildings - barracks, refinery, power plant, weapons factory and more. Credits tick in from the refinery and are earned by damaging the enemy, and are spent at your own buildings on better characters and on vehicles. Destroy every enemy building, kill the last enemy standing, or set off a superweapon, and the round is yours. Knock out a single building and the enemy loses whatever it provided: take the power plant and their defences go down, take the refinery and their income dries up.
Version 0.55 ships 19 weapons plus 2 superweapons, 11 vehicles and 8 maps.
Release history
Renegade X began life as "Renegade 2007" and was renamed in early 2008. The public UT3 line ran 0.35 (30 September 2009), a 0.36 patch, 0.40 (November 2009), 0.50 (January 2010) and finally 0.55 on 1 October 2010, a year to the day after the first beta. 0.55 added the Sydney, Dr. Ignatio Mobius and Hotwire characters, the map Complex, and a real Nod nuclear strike animation in place of the redeemer placeholder.
0.50 had been intended as the last UT3 build; a server move that broke the mod's browser prompted 0.55 as an unplanned final release. Development then moved off UT3 entirely to the Unreal Development Kit, producing the standalone Renegade X: Operation Black Dawn in 2012 and the standalone Renegade X from 2014 onward. Those are separate games and need no copy of UT3 - 0.55 is where the mod line ends, and it was never patched again.
Installation
Windows installer, requiring a retail install of Unreal Tournament 3 with the latest patch.
